What Career Roles Exist in the Events Industry?

+ what do they involve?!

As I began my journey into the events industry, I was often faced with the question, “What do you want to do after graduation?” My answer was usually broad— “something in events”—without fully understanding the wide range of roles within the field. To find the right fit for me, I spent considerable time researching the various opportunities available. This article is designed to guide young people interested in corporate events, helping them explore and understand the different career roles within the industry. I hope it inspires curiosity and highlights lesser-known possibilities in this exciting field!

 

Role Descriptions

Creative

Creative Director – Leads the conceptualization and execution of the overall creative vision for events, ensuring that all design, branding, and visual elements align with the client’s objectives and enhance the attendee experience.

Creative Assistant – Contributes to the event’s artistic vision and design strategy

 

Venue

Venue Account Manager – Manages relationships with venues, coordinating logistics, negotiating contracts, and ensuring that the venue meets all requirements for a seamless event experience.

Venue Consultant – advises clients on selecting the ideal venue, leveraging their expertise on location options, space suitability, and logistics to align with the event’s objectives and budget.

 

Project

Project Manager – Plans an event from start to finish in line with time and budget restraints

Producer – Brings the event’s creative vision to life by coordinating technical, logistical and experimental elements – Has a key presence onsite during live days

Account Manager – Manages client relationships, ensuring their needs and expectations are met

 

Technical

AV Technician – Setting up, operating, and troubleshooting audio-visual equipment—such as microphones, projectors, and lighting systems

Software Engineer – Develops and maintains digital tools and platforms—such as event apps, registration systems, and interactive experiences

 

Marketing

Marketing Manager – Develops and implements strategy to promote a service/product/company

Content Creator – Produces engaging media for the target audience

 

Design

Graphic Designer – Creates visually compelling materials—such as event logos, banners, signage, and digital assets
