It may be summer, but this year many people haven’t been able to get away because of Covid-19 restrictions. So this member feature article we asked to see all our members’ international work. From work filmed abroad, to events run abroad, to projects collaborated on by teams working internationally, in this member feature article we share work from all around the world! Thank you to our brilliant members for contributing their work this month.
The Zoo XYZ Makes a Documentary
This was a behind the scenes look at our team travelling between London and Ghana in December 2019.
After being called to do Cardi B’s show, we left Ghana but unfortunately we had to turn the opportunity down. When we landed in London we organised Ian Wright’s return party from I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and Stormzy’s Album Launch Heavy is the Head. We then flew back to join the team in Ghana for Afrochella. What a month that was!
Pukka Films Unite International Teams in an Animated Museum
Atelier Ten commissioned us in 2020 to create a brand film to celebrate their 30 years of work in world-leading environmental building engineering and design. What was initially conceived as a live-action project which would film Atelier Ten’s landmark buildings from Sydney to Singapore had to be completely reimagined as the Covid-19 pandemic ground international shoots to a halt. Our solution was to tell the story of who Atelier Ten are with an animation showcasing their approach and key projects within a beautiful, modern CGI gallery space. From San Fransisco to Bangkok, although these engineers and designers were stuck in their living rooms, we created a museum space to showcase their work, diversity and ethos. We conducted interviews remotely with Atelier Ten staff in 7 countries, briefing the contributors on how to self-film with equipment packages, and cut these talking heads onto the walls, plinths and podiums of the museum space. As a large organisation with staff spread globally, being able to celebrate and visually include over 15 Atelier people within the film meant a lot to this very people-driven organisation, at a time when they could not come together in person to celebrate their 30 year birthday.
SevenEvents take clients to Palma for an incentive event
After a year of travel restrictions preventing the team from getting together, our client came to us looking for support to plan their 2021 trip. We worked closely with the team, choosing destinations on the “green list” and scoping a programme based predominantly outdoors. We knew that the team are foodies and love the sea, so we arranged meals in high end restaurants and a luxury catamaran with water sports.
Our team we’re onsite for the duration of the programme ensuring the programme ran smoothly and assisting guests where needed. We also arranged for COVID testing for those guests requiring it before travelling back to their home countries across Europe.
The trip was extremely well received and our client said; ‘We had a fantastic time, thank you for the pre-event support and guidance. The whole trip was a joy from start to finish and the onsite team were amazing!”
Tim Langford flies to Germany to tell Michael Portz’s story
I flew to Germany last September to shoot a film about a friend who is a great, professional coach called Michael Portz – he works with a lot of entrepreneurs and leaders. He wanted me to tell his story in a more personal way to launch his new website. Just getting on an aeroplane was so exciting (!) and then seeing Michael in the flesh, travelling with him and meeting his family was such a refreshing experience and such great fun. Working with a local DoP, in glorious sunshine, we managed to traverse friendship and professionalism to create his film. I’ve known Michael for many years so it feels very personal because you don’t want to let someone down but you also have to bring some detachment to telling this kind of story.
Gavin Knight works with ACrew4U to prove location filming is possible during Covid-19
ACrew4U are a global crewing agency based in London who are used by many EVCOM members. They provide camera & production crew for business, advertising & TV shoots around the world, including some news gathering.
Last year they asked me to write a script & provide Creative Direction for a promotional film, obviously with everyone working remotely. Camera crew are notoriously shy about stepping out in front of the camera, let alone delivering a script directly into their own lens! But that’s what Sarah Cove, Producer at A Crew4U, persuaded many of them to do during lockdown to demonstrate location filming is possible in most countries regardless of Covid status. The end results are these two promos shot in about 20 different countries!
Thank you so much to all of our contributing members for sharing your brilliant work!
