Our brilliant panelists, Tim Langford, Gavin Buxton Knight and Laura Cole (LC Events), discussed the situation for freelancers in a session facilitated by Sara Cooper (Plastic Pictures). They shared top tips on how to maximise any downtime you might have and turn it into ‘go-time’, including getting showreels together and social media accounts more active. They discussed new ways of working, focusing on the way they anticipate the relationship might change between freelancers and production companies. They all agreed on the importance of community at a time like this, uniting freelancers who often spend their working lives in competition with each other. This could be in the form of facebook groups, something which the events sector is doing well, but that the corporate film sector don’t have an equivalent of, as well as skills sharing networks.
EVCOM was also very please to announce that we will be making a commitment to helping to facilitate introductions between freelancers and our screen membership. This will be motivation for freelancers to ensure that their CV and showreel is up to date. They will then be able to research and choose five companies within the EVCOM Membership that they have always wanted to approach. They submit these wishes to EVCOM and we will commit to using our connections and influence to set up virtual meet and greets and or face to face meet and greets when restrictions are lifted. So when work does resume these freelancers will have already had a head start having been in touch with relevant people who are in the position of confirming crew!
