Talking Pictures - Explaining Money
When: Tuesday 3rd June, 18.00 to 19.30
Where: BFI , London, W1T 1LN
This June, Talking Pictures returns to the BFI and turns its focus to the screen language of finance—how money, economics, and corporate systems have been visualised, explained, and sold to the public through British film.
Through clever animation, persuasive storytelling and unexpected humour, these films take us inside balance sheets, banking, and business—from internal training rooms to nationwide marketing campaigns.
We’ll be screening a distinctive mix of archival films that show how industries and institutions have used cinema to make sense of financial systems—and to shape public perception.
Following the screenings, we’ll host a conversation exploring what these films reveal about Britain’s economic history, institutional messaging, and the cinematic techniques used to break down complex financial ideas.
