Between 2003 and 2013 there were 30 passenger fatalities at the interface between the platform and trains at stations. The issue is complex because the onus is on individual behaviour but rail staff also have a duty of care. Our film aimed to illustrate this complexity in an emotion-grabbing way.
The film is designed to be watched by employees within the rail industry who are responsible for safely dispatching trains and keeping passengers safe as they get on and off trains. This includes drivers, guards and train dispatchers. It has been shown to ‘captive’ audiences of rail staff receiving formal briefings about this change.
MEASURES OF IMPACT AND EFFECTIVENESS
The film brought to life the mundane but essential changes in rail staff procedures introduced in June 2013 governing how trains are monitored when they leave stations. The project’s success will be measured by a reduction in incidents at the platform/train interface.
