PROJECT AIMS

Dementia is a growing health issue and NHS staff must develop awareness of the needs of dementia patients. A series of five training films were produced to improve standards of care and followed a pilot film that was so successful it was distributed to a further 360 NHS Hospital Trusts.

 

INTENDED AUDIENCE

Medical staff throughout Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). Series of five films viewed one per month in groups of 300 people. Film was followed by discussion and learning points.
Films now planned to be distributed to further NHS Hospital Trusts. Films also embedded into the GSTT corporate induction programme for new staff.

 

MEASURES OF IMPACT AND EFFECTIVENESS

Full evaluation programme by South Bank University ongoing. The pilot film was evaluated and found to be responsible for creating culture change, a high awareness of dementia and a requirement for the learning from the original film to be sustained, hence the commissioning of the series.
