PROJECT AIMS

The project responded to customer confusion and concerns about how to access the Library. We had three objectives:
1. Provide a simple guide to using the Library
2. Project the Library’s brand values: ‘open’, ‘intelligent’ and ‘bold’
3. Showcase the Library’s collections (the video is entirely composed of Library collections)

INTENDED AUDIENCE

The project targeted the full range of potential Library users, from senior academics to undergraduate students, as well as entrepreneurs and family historians. The video sits on the Library’s YouTube channel and is embedded within the online pre-registration process. It is also used in the building at key points in the user journey (by the cloakroom and in the registration office), and during training sessions and talks.

MEASURES OF IMPACT AND EFFECTIVENESS

This video has had over 10,000 views since its launch in February. Front-line staff feedback indicates that the video has enabled them to more easily respond to enquiries. Social media feedback includes: @JJMellorsPhoto “I always knew libraries were awesome but the British Library outdoes itself with these videos”.
