One of the FSA in Wales’ objectives is to improve public awareness about good food and hygiene. Through its schools’ engagement programme, the objective is to enhance and encourage children’s understanding of potential risks of hygiene related dangers within their everyday environment, not only at home, but also in school.
The day begins with a 30 minute performance for the whole school which sets up the story and introduces the characters. The play uses physical humour and audience participation to introduce key themes around food safety and hygienic food preparation. The drama finishes with an unsolved mystery and the actors then spend the rest of the day visiting each class in character to run interactive workshops in which the pupils solve the mystery. The workshops are differentiated according to age and ability. At the end of the day, the whole school reassembles in the Hall for a plenary session.
The Mystery of Dragon Castle has been independently evaluated twice by Strategic Marketing Research. Their reports have been overwhelmingly positive.
